Why Brand Comes Before the Lease

Your reputation lives
inside the institution you're leaving.

In plastic surgery, the brand is the first consultation.

It decides which patients book the second.

Inside a hospital or group, referrals come to you. Outside it, patients find you the way they find everyone else: a search, a feed, a friend's screenshot. Surgical excellence does not transfer automatically. A brand does.

ZOE works with surgeons from before the practice has a name. We consult on the position, develop the identity and the surgeon brand, produce the content, build the website, and run the pre-launch campaign — so the practice opens recognized, not anonymous.

Who This Is For
01

Finishing Fellowship

Board-eligible surgeons going straight into private practice, who need a brand that carries authority before the patient reviews exist.

02

Leaving a Group or Hospital

Surgeons with a reputation inside an institution and no brand outside it. The name is known; the practice is not.

03

Splitting From a Partnership

Established surgeons starting over under their own name, often in the same market, who need to be distinct from the practice they left.

04

Adding a Second Location or Brand

Surgeons expanding into a new market, or launching a sub-brand — a surgical center, a skin clinic, a product line.

The Launch Roadmap

How to brand and launch a plastic surgery practice.

Six phases, timed backward from opening day. Consulting first, then development — because the order is what makes the brand hold.

  1. 9 – 6 months before opening

    Brand Consulting & Positioning

We start with the surgeon, not the logo. Which procedures you want to be known for, which patients you want in the chair, how the market you are entering already looks, and what you can own that no one there does. The outcome is a written position, a target patient, and a naming decision — practice name, surgeon name, or both.

  2. 6 – 4 months before opening

    Brand Identity & Surgeon Brand

The practice identity and the surgeon’s personal brand, designed as one system: logo and wordmark, typography, color, photography direction, tone of voice, and guidelines. A surgeon brand that can outlive any one office, and a practice brand that can hold a second surgeon one day.

  3. 4 – 3 months before opening

    Surgeon Content & Authority

Patients choose a surgeon they believe is an authority, and authority is built visually. Surgeon portraiture, the founder film, procedure-philosophy content, and OR and consultation environments — produced before the practice has a single patient to photograph.

  4. 3 – 1 months before opening

    Website & Consultation Funnel

A plastic surgery website designed to convert: procedure pages written for how patients search, a surgeon page that carries the brand, a results gallery with taste, and a consultation request flow connected to your practice software. Live early with a waitlist.

  5. 8 weeks before – opening day

    Pre-Launch Campaign

Announcement to the referral network, founding-patient consultations, press and local placement, and a content calendar that builds an audience before the doors open. The practice opens with a booked first quarter, not an empty one.

  6. Opening onward

    Ongoing Brand Development

Quarterly creative direction, procedure campaigns, patient storytelling, and brand consistency as the practice adds staff, services, and locations. The brand stays recognizable while the practice grows.

What Goes Wrong

Five mistakes surgeons make
before they open.

01

Letting the practice-management vendor build the brand

A logo and website bundled with the EMR is where most new practices start — and why they all look the same. The brand should come from a brand consultancy, not a software add-on.

02

Naming it after the street

Address-based and city-based names are the default of the category. They are forgettable, hard to own, and useless when you add a location.

03

Opening without a surgeon brand

Patients search the surgeon before the practice. If the surgeon has no brand outside the hospital, the practice opens anonymous.

04

Treating the website as a brochure

The website is the consultation funnel. Every referral, Instagram visit, and Google search lands there. It should be built to book, and live before opening day.

05

Launching on volume marketing

Paid ads and discounts can fill a schedule, but they fill it with the wrong patients and set the brand at the bottom of the market from day one.

FAQ
How do I start a plastic surgery practice from a branding standpoint?+

Define the position first — the procedures you want to be known for, the patient you want, and how you differ from the surgeons already in the market. Then decide on naming, build the practice and surgeon brand identity, produce surgeon content, launch a website built to convert consultations, and run a pre-launch campaign to your referral network and audience. ZOE handles this entire sequence as brand consulting and development for new practices.

When should a surgeon start branding a new private practice?+

Nine to six months before opening. Positioning and naming take weeks, identity and surgeon content take months, and the website and pre-launch campaign need runway. Starting at the lease signing is late; starting before the lease is ideal.

Should the practice be named after me or have its own name?+

It depends on the plan. A surgeon-named practice builds personal authority fast and is right for a solo surgeon with no intention to sell. A separate practice name supports partners, a second location, and an eventual exit. Many of our clients run both — a practice brand and a surgeon brand designed to reinforce each other. This is a positioning decision we make together.

What is private practice branding for surgeons?+

The brand strategy, identity, content, and website that make a surgeon and their practice recognizable and trusted before a patient ever meets them. It includes positioning, naming, visual identity, surgeon personal brand, photography and film direction, brand guidelines, and the creative direction applied across every touchpoint.

Do you help with the business plan?+

We contribute the brand, positioning, and marketing sections — competitive analysis, target patient, brand strategy, launch plan, and content investment. Financial modeling, credentialing, and legal structure come from your attorney, accountant, and practice consultant.

Do you work with surgeons outside Dallas–Fort Worth?+

Yes. ZOE is based in Fort Worth and works with surgeons launching practices nationwide. Content production is scheduled on site in your market.

What does it cost to brand and launch a plastic surgery practice?+

It depends on scope — consulting and identity alone, or a full launch with surgeon content, website, and campaign. We scope each engagement to the practice and the opening date, and discuss investment on a strategy call.

What happens after I reach out?+

You share the practice plan, the opening timeline, and where you are. We reply within two business days with a strategy call to define the position and scope the launch.
